Broadbandandultra-broadbandhalf-waveplateswithcompositedesignwerepreviouslyexperimentallydemonstratedbyE.Dimovaet.al.,inOpt.Commun.366,382(2016).Toachievebroadbandandultra-broadbandperformance,theauthorsutilizedtherelativerotationbetweentheindividualidenticalhalf-waveplatesascontrolparameters,thussimulatingthewell-knowncontroltechniqueofcompositepulsesfromquantumoptics.Inthispaper,weextendthebroadbandandultra-broadbanddesignsbyrelaxingtheconditionofhavingidenticalconstituenthalf-waveplatesandallowfortheirthicknessestoalsobevariablecontrolparameters.Wefurtherrelaxtheconditionofhavingsymmetricrotationanglesandsolvenumericallyforbothcontrolparameters-rotationanglesandthicknessesofthebirefringentplates.Weshowthatthepresenteddesignisbroadbandoveramuchwiderrangeofthewavelengths,comparedtotheoriginaldesign,whenusingthesamenumberofconstituenthalf-waveplates...
