PhysiologicalpropertiesofdevelopingneuromuscularjunctionswerestudiedinRanacatesbeianatadpolesatdifferentdevelopmentalstages.Developingneuronsformedfunctionalsynapticconnectionswithasectionoftailmuscleimplantedinplaceofthehindlimbbud.LowfrequencyrepetitivestimulationatthesedevelopingjunctionscausesaprogressivereductionintheEppamplitude.Thisreductionisduetoadecreaseinthequantalcontent,isreversible,andismoreapparentatthemostimmaturedevelopmentalstages,becominglessnoticeablewithfurtherdevelopment.Thesejunctionsarecapableoffacilitationateachdevelopmentalstagestudiedwhenthequantalcontentisreducedbymagnesium.Atnormalcalciumandmagnesiumconcentrationsthereislittleornofacilitation,andoftendepressionofthesecondEppoccurs.
