As stated in the Preface, “the goal [of this book] is to improve anesthesia in veterinary practice and reduce pain and suffering in animals.” This being the fifth edition, the authors have had plenty of time to properly address this goal; adapting or deleting material as it becomes obsolete and adding information on new drugs and techniques, in some cases, even prior to being widely adopted. The handbook at publication was as up-to-date and cutting edge as it could be at that time. The focus is to provide material and guidance that is both relevant and practical for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
