We show that the oscillating G model proposed as an explanation of the periodic distribution in the galaxy-count number is also an acceptable model for the cosmological nonbaryonic matter when taken together with the standard inflationary scenario (Ω = 1). The model, and in particular the value of the galactic redshift oscillation amplitude, is compatible with the values of the baryonic energy density Ωbar allowed by the primordial abundance of light elements (0.010 ≤ Ωbar h2 ≤ 0.020). Remarkably, these values also result in a value for the age of the universe compatible with recent observations. Specifically, the lower bound of 11.5 Gyr is satisfied provided the Hubble parameter is given by H0 = h 100 km s-1 Mpc-1 with h 0.68.
