ABSTRACT The article presents the requirements set to the quality of manufactured carbon containing powders (materials) used in steel-melting and blast furnaces as a carbonizer, carburizer or for slag foaming. The processes of brown coal heat treatment and enrichment with the obtainment of new carbon-containing materials possessing characteristics appropriate for foundry have been described.
