Thecytoplasmiclinkerprotein(CLIP)‐170localizestokinetochoresandissuggestedtofunctioninstableattachmentofkinetochorestomicrotubuleends.Hereweshowthatdefectsinkinetochore–microtubuleattachmentandchromosomealignmentinCLIP‐170‐depletedcellswererescuedbyco‐depletionofp150glued,adynactinsubunitrequiredforkinetochorelocalizationofCLIP‐170.CLIP‐170recruitedp150gluedtomicrotubuleends.KinetochorelocalizationatmicrotubuleendswasperturbedbyCLIP‐170depletion,whichwasrescuedbyco‐depletingp150glued.OurresultsimplythatCLIP‐170tetherskinetochorestomicrotubuleendsagainstthedynein‐mediatedpolewardforcetoslidekinetochoresalongmicrotubules,facilitatingthestablekinetochoreattachmenttomicrotubules...
