LeonorMichaelisspenttheyearsof1922–1926asProfessorofBiochemistryoftheAichiMedicalCollege(nowGraduateSchoolofMedicine,NagoyaUniversity)inNagoya,Japan.MichaelissucceededingatheringmanybrightyoungbiochemistsfromalloverJapanintohislaboratory,andmadetremendouscontributionstothepromotionofbiochemistryinJapan.MichaeliswasinvitedtomanyplacesinJapantopresentlecturesoverthoseyears.KunioYagi,whowasProfessorofBiochemistryatNagoyaUniversityinthesecondhalfofthe20thcentury,succeededincrystallizingthe“Michaelis”enzyme–substratecomplex.Historically,MichelishashadanenormousimpactonbiochemistryinJapan...
