Measles Outbreak, the Netherlands, 2008

To the Editor: From June 1 through October 16, 2008, an outbreak of 99 reported measles cases occurred in the Netherlands (1). This outbreak was the largest measles outbreak in the Netherlands since 1999–2000, when >3,200 cases, including 3 deaths, were reported (2).In the Netherlands, clinical symp-toms compatible with measles in a per-son with laboratory-confi rmed measles virus infection or an epidemiologic link to a laboratory-confi rmed case are notifi able (i.e., must be reported to public health authorities).
