Bartonella henselae and Domestic Cats, Jamaica

To the Editor: Bartonella hense-lae has been isolated from domesticcats in most countries where it hasbeen investigated (1), with the excep-tion of some countries at northern lat-itudes, such as Norway (2). Theprevalence of both bacteremia andseropositivity in cats is usually high-est in warm and humid tropical coun-tries. The worldwide distribution ofcat scratch disease (CSD), a zoonoticdisease caused mainly by the scratchof a B. henselae–infected cat, followsa similar pattern. Limited informationis available about CSD in eitherhumans or the feline reservoir in theCaribbean region
