Purpose : To assess reproducibility and correlation of SPECTRALIS?? SD-OCT and SD OCT Glaucoma Module Premium Edition (APS Module) for RNFL thickness (RNFLT) measurements. It was previously shown that BMO-MRW (Brucha??s membrane opening-minimum rim width-minimum distance between BMO and inner limiting membrane) was a better measure for detecting glaucomatous damage than peripapillary RNFLT. We assessed diagnostic reliability of BMO-MRW with SD OCT APS Module in glaucoma patients and healthy controls. Methods : Retrospective study of 81 eyes (41 patients) with glaucoma and 49 eyes of 26 healthy controls.Scans were obtained using SPECTRALIS??SD OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg Germany ).In the first analysis RNFLT in each sector was measured with both modules and compared using Pearson coefficient of correlation.In the second analysis BMO-MRW was assessed by SD OCT APS Module. Sensitivity, specificity and Area under Receiver Operating Characteristics curve (AUROC) of each sector of the optic nerve were calculated using DeLong`s et al. method. Those were compared and statistical significance (p0.05) was computed. Results : The first analysis showed a positive correlation (Pearson, 0.618-0.973, p0.0001) between peripapillary RNFLT measurements by standard SD OCT and all diameters of RNFLT APS Module within all sectors.In the second analysis, AUROC of RNFLT in standard SD-OCT was 0.736 in the nasal inferior (NI) sector and 0.709 in the temporal (T)sector.The AUROC of BMO-MRW was 0.85 in NI and 0.86 in T. The difference in AUROC was statistically significant (p0.004,p0.0018). AUROC of all other sectors did not show a statistically significant difference.AUROC of BMO-MRW NI, nasal superior (NS), T and temporal superior (TS) sector was significant greater than AUROC of all RNFLT diameters measured with APS Module (p0.0001-p=0.0494) (Fig.1).Extended results are shown in Table1 and Fig.1. Conclusions : RNFLT of both modules showed a positive correlation and the results were reproducible. We found that BMO-MRW in T sector and NI is more sensitive in detecting glaucomatous changes than RNFLT standard SD OCT.
