High hospital incidence of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia in young infants in the Lao PDR

Background: In high resource countries the dominant causes of neonatal sepsis are Streptococcus agalactiae and Escherichia coli[1], for which ampicillin and gentamicin are used empirically. This combination may not be appropriate for countries with different common pathogens[2].
