摘要

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) carry a significant medical, economic, societal and emotional burden, although this has been poorly characterized. Inexplicably, the fight to eradicate congenital syphilis (CS) has failed to attract international attention,1 compared to HIV and other STIs. The magnitude of the burden of CS globally rivals that of HIV infection in neonates, but the disease receives little attention, even in those countries in which the seroprevalence of CS is higher than that of HIV.
