摘要

Dental caries have the highest incidence among human oral diseases and a wide distribution. The oral microbial community structure, rather than a single bacterial species, is closely related to caries. Zhou et al. (e02412-16) have recently demonstrated salivary bacterial community structure differences (including differences in diversity, composition, and cooccurrence) between individuals with and without caries. They found that the pH and the Fe concentration could significantly drive the salivary bacterial profiles, and thus it is advised that they be controlled within appropriate ranges. This study provides vital clues concerning the interrelationships between oral environments, salivary microorganisms, and dental caries for investigations.
