Successful management of rhino-cerebral mucormycosis in a patient with diabetic ketoacidosis

Here we report rhino-cerebral mucormycosis in a diabetic patient who was treated successfully. A 32-year-old female was broughtto our hospital with altered sensorium for 1 day and fever with loin pain for 2 weeks. She had discharge from the nose and the hardpalate. Microscopy of nasal scrapings showed broad aseptate hyphae and rhizopus was grown in culture. She was treated withAmphotericin B and surgical debridement was done. She recovered and was discharged. Mucormycosis should be kept in mindwhen treating known diabetics, as timely intervention can save the life of these patients
