Cardiac nursing requires precision and dedicationto detail. Multiple factors play a large part in not only recruit-ment, but retention of qualified staff nurses. Nurse educatorssometimes face an uphill struggle to ensure staff is able to compe-tently care for cardiac patients with complex clinical needs. Staffthat is multi cultural, as well as coming from differing strata oftraining, present challenges to maintaining consistent clinical stan-dards of care that are congruent with not only international nurs-ing standards, but also fall within the criteria set by accreditationbodies, such as Joint Commission International. This presentationwill review individual nurses’ timeline for gaining skills and com-petency, as well as strategies utilized in order to achieve clinicalcompetency.
