The two books reviewed here are exceptional in many ways. One is the latest volumeof prison writings by Abdullah ?calan – a work full of inspiration and profoundinsights, yet due to the circumstances it was written in, often repetitive and hard tograsp, let alone summarize. The other is a book about ?calan and the fascinating,anguished complexities of the Kurdish situation in Turkey and beyond to which hehas devoted his life.
