Service-Oriented Authoring System to Achieve Interoperability among E-Learning Environment

E-learning environment involves lots of relevantsystems, such as the LMS (Learning Management System),the LCMS (Learning Content Management System), theCourseware Authoring System, and so on. Among them, thecourseware authoring could be considered as thefundamental process while realizing an e-learningenvironment. As the result, to provide a friendly userinterface in an authoring system has become the mostessential part in the e-learning environment. On the otherhand, how to simplify the authoring process for those userswho aren’t the experts in this domain should be solved aswell to make e-learning more popular. In this paper, wemainly focus on how to develop a service-oriented onlineauthoring system based on SCORM standard. Thefunctionalities in our authoring system can be also taken asseparate services. These services can be reused in otherexternal systems. In addition, we proposed a transformationmechanism to achieve the interoperability between variouse-learning standards. Furthermore, we utilize the IMS LIPspecification to maintain the authoring history of individualauthor, and use these profiles for authors to achieve thepersonalization authoring process.
