Achieving Dynamic and Distributed Session Management with Chord for Software as a Service Cloud

Cloud computing - started as a buzz word israpidly embraced by the enterprises and preached bythe technological evangelist. Availability of high bandwidthinternet at the end user level, and the adoption of virtualizationfor efficient resource utilization by the datacentermanagement has given birth to this new computingparadigm. It promises colossal on-demand processing andstorage capacity along with scalable service delivery model.Software solution providers are applying cloud computing toreduce service provisioning cost, by providing their businessfunctionality as a service. However, it requires modificationin context of how existing services are provisioned. Existingsession management policies require dedicated computingresources to process sessions; this deviate from the conceptof “Pay-As-You-Use”. To conform to cloud computing architecturethere is need to decouple session managementfrom the provisioned services. Derived by the need of ondemandservice provisioning in this paper we present adecentralized session management framework inspired byP2P routing protocol. We call the proposed frameworkChord based Session Management Framework for Softwareas a Service Cloud (CSMC). Applying CSMC eliminates theneed of separately deploying computing resources for sessionsmanagement, in fact CSMC uses existing least utilizedresources within Cloud Area Network (CAN). CSMC testedon three different cloud configurations highlights the factthat CSMC can be effectively deployed in cloud to achieveseamless service scalability. Additionally, we have testedCSMC on different web-servers to highlight its efficacy ofsession management on varied cloud infrastructure.
