Data Modeling of Knowledge Rules: An Oracle Prototype

Knowledge rules are outlined declaratively in aknowledge base repository. Each rule is createdindependently for storage in the repository. This paperprovides an approach to apply the techniques of traditionalentity-relationship data modeling to structure theknowledge rules for storage as a database schema in arelational database management system. Utilization of entityrelationship model and relational database for modelingknowledge rules provides for a more standardizedmechanism for structuring knowledge rules. Storage ofknowledge rules in a relational database shall also bringabout improved integration with business applications,besides having the availability of services provided fortransactional database applications. The paper utilizes theOracle database for illustrating the application of theconcepts through a sample set of knowledge rules. Theapproach is explained through a prototype in Oracle'sPL/SQL Server Pages.
