摘要

To assess the incidence and severity of selfreportedhyperhidrosis in patients with amputation and understandits effects on prosthetic fit or function, a crosssectionalsurvey of patients at two amputee clinics was performed.Responses from 121 subjects with lowerlimb amputation wereanalyzed. Of these subjects, 66% reported sweating to a degreethat it interfered with daily activities, as measured by theHyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale. There was a significantassociation between sweating and interference with prostheticfit and function. Sweating was more severe in cases of transtibialamputations, patients under the age of 60 yr, warm weather, and vigorous activity. There was no relationship betweenseverity of sweating and time since amputation, etiology ofamputation, duration of daily prosthetic use, or reported abilityto perform functional tasks. Subjects reported trying multipleinterventions, but the selfreported effectiveness of these treatmentswas low. Hyperhidrosis, a common problem associatedwith prosthetic usage, varies in severity and often interfereswith daily activities. Sweating severity is associated with poorprosthetic fit and function. Risk factors include younger ageand transtibial amputation status. Treatment strategies generallylack efficacy. The results of this study may provide guidancefor future interventions and treatment options
