In order to study the effective use of precipitation in the growth of winter wheat and summer maize in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, the simulated precipitation experiment was designed according to the characteristics of precipitation in the study area, and a 3-year simulated precipitation experiment was carried out. Based on the water balance method, the effective precipitation of the main crops in different growth stages under different designed precipitation conditions was calculated and an effective precipitation table for the main crops in the study area was established. According to the analysis, the precipitation of the Yellow River irrigation area in the lower reaches of the Yellow River mainly occurred at the late grain filling stage and between the seedling stage and late jointing stage of summer maize. The effectiveness of “light rain” and “moderate rain” in the grain filling stage of winter wheat is lower than that of other growing stages, and the effectiveness of “light rain” and “moderate rain” is low compared with other growth stages. The results showed that the precipitation efficiency was significantly lower than that of “light rain” and “moderate rain” in the “heavy rain” and “rainstorm” test scenarios, especially at seedling stage, while precipitation efficiency was significantly reduced when the actual precipitation exceeds 40mm.
