Preparation of xerogel SiO2 from roasted iron sand under various acidic solution

XerogelSiO2hadbeenpreparedfromroastedironsandthroughvariationofNa2CO3additionandsol-gelprocessundervariousacidicsolution.Roastingtreatmentwascarriedoutonthecompositionalvariationofironsand:Na2CO3=1:2;1:1and2:1at1100°C.Whilethesol-gelprocesswasconductedatroomtemperatureandneutralizedusingHCl0.1Mand6M.Thecolorcharacteristicsofroastedironsandshownlightbrown,darkbrownanddarkgrayofthecompositionalvariationofironsand:Na2CO3=1:2;1:1and2:1,respectively.Inaddition,thelevelsofthoughnessincreasedbyincreasingtheratioofsandinthecompositionofthemixture.Thebestcompositionofroastedtreatmentwasatavarietyofironsand:Na2SiO3=1:2with57.72%hadbeendissolvedinhotwater.TheadditionofNa2CO3willinfluencetheNa2SiO3formation,becauseoftheincreaseofNa2CO3capableproducedtheironsanddecompositionproduct.Na2SiO3gelhadbeenproducedafteritwasneutralizedwithcertainamountofHClsolution.TheneutralizationwasmoreeffectiveifusinghighconcentrationofHClbecauseoftheformationofgelSiO2willbeeasieroccurred.TheresultsofSiO2hadbeenidentifiedbytheFTIRspectra,whichanabsorptionspectraofSi-O-Siasymmetricstretchingat1098.51cm-1,symmetricstretchingofSi-O-Siat804.35cm-1andthebendingO-Si-Oat469.69cm'1.TheresultofSiO2contentbyXRFanalysisisabout85.15%...
