Thispaperreportsthedesign,andtestingofawaterturbinegeneratorsystemfortypicalflowratesindomesticapplications,withanintegratedpowermanagementandaBluetoothlowenergy(BLE)basedRFdatatransmissioninterface.Itisbasedonacommerciallyavailablelowcosthydrogenerator.Thegeneratorisbuiltintoahousingwithoptimizedreducedfluidicresistancetoenableoperationwithflowratesaslowas6l/min.Thepowermanagementcombinesrectification,buffering,definedstart-up,andcircuitprotection.AnMSP430FR5949microcontrollerisusedfordataacquisitionandprocessing.ThedataaretransmittedviaRF,usingaBluegigaBLE112moduleinadvertisementmode,toaPCwherethemeasuredflowrateisstoredanddisplayed.Thetransmissionrateofthewirelesssensornode(WSN)issetto1Hzifenoughpowerisavailable,whichisthecaseforflowratesabove5.5l/min.Theelectronicspowerdemandiscalculatedtobe340μWinaverage,whilethegeneratoriscapableofdeliveringmorethan200mWforflowratesabove15l/min...
