This paper presents a straightforward analysis of the electric field concentration concerning a distribution structure (crossarm, “N1” type), using pin type ceramic insulators, 15?kV. The main objective of this analysis is to reduce the amount of wood used in these structures. For this purpose, two software packages were used: alternative transients program and Flux 3D. The first was used to analyze the electric power system both in transient and steady state. The second was used to analyze the electric field, as well as the observable equipotential lines in the structure. The implementation and validation of the methodology outlined in this research indicate a considerable margin of safety in the distances between the insulators, allowing for a significant reduction in the length of the crossarm currently employed and, therefore, in the amount of wood used. The same methodology was applied to analyze an alternative model for the crossarm. From the observed results, no differences in potential were found between the points evaluated that could cause the dielectric of the wooden crossarm and the air to break down, providing strong evidence for the acceptance and field application of this alternative model...
