Design of a Discrete Controller Using the Dahlin Algorithm for a Direct-Current Motor Speed Control

This paper presents a solution for theautomatic control of the driving mechanisms that loador unload billets in or from a rotary hearth furnace.For now the control of the loading/unloadingmachines is made manually and an automatic controlstructure is desired. The treated solution is based onusing, for each machine, a direct-current motor (d.c.motor) supplied through a direct-current converter(d.c. converter) for the forward and backwardmovements of the two machines, to or from thefurnace. In this context, the tuning of a discretecontroller implemented in the converter is made inorder to assure the imposed speed of the motors and toassure the machines correct positioning. The controlleris designed using the Dahlin algorithm, since thetransfer function model of the process is known. Theassessment of the results is made via simulation.
