This paper presents a novel telecommunication system based on audiosteganography. Cryptographic as well as steganographic techniques have beenemployed to increase security. Initially the plaintext is encrypted using a symmetriccryptographic function based on a pseudo-random number generator (PRNG1), toproduce the ciphertext; next, the ciphertext is randomly and evenly distributed(i.e., hidden) through-out a cover audio signal by means of a second PRNG, toproduce the stego-signal. The resulting stego-sound is transmitted over the(inse-cure) channel. At the Receiver, the inverse operations take place, but inreverse order. Matlab simulation results as well as steganalysis tests whichdemonstrate increased security are presented. Using this system, two users mayexchange confidential text messages hidden in attached audio files - amongother applications.
