Animal husbandry forms an integral part of the Indianeconomy alongside agriculture, making it arguably one of the oldestindustries known to mankind. The country boasts of occupying thetop spot in milk production, and has the largest livestock populationof around 512 million. All this is indicative of the immenseopportunities that lie in the veterinary sector of the country .Butbeing such a growth driving sector of the economy the Indian animalhealthcare industry is not getting the proper attention. This paperprovides a overview of the current trends in animal healthcareIndustry in India covering the different segments of animalhusbandry that includes livestock, poultry, companion animals andother animals .The study also try to identify the challenges before theindustry starting from low level of awareness to treatment ,nutrition,scientific management and productivity. The research has greatimplications for government policy makers, researcher and theIndian pharmaceutical firms to take strategic decisions for growth.
