Scintillometry is widely recognized as a potential tool forobtaining spatially aggregated sensible heat fluxes at regionalscales. Although many investigations have been made over contrastingcomponent surfaces, few aggregation schemes consider footprintcontributions. In this paper, an approach is presented to inferaverage sensible heat flux over a very heterogeneous landscape byusing a large aperture scintillometer. The methodology isdemonstrated on simulated data and tested on a time series ofmeasurements obtained during the SPARC2004 experiment in Barrax,Spain. Results show that the two-dimensional footprint approachyields more accurate results of aggregated sensible heat flux thantraditional methods.
