Induction of uncoiled chromosomes with RNA'se

摘要

When air-dried chromosome slides are treated with protease-free RNA'se, the Giemsa-stained chromosomes appear banded. After prolonged treatment uncoiled chromosomes as those produced in vitro can be observed.It is suggested that the uncoiling is due to in situ digestion of the HnRNA component of the perichromosomal fibrils, which serve as structural elements necessary for normal chromosome condensation in metaphase.
