摘要

Due to advances in early detection, cancer treatments, and supportive care, the population of cancer survivors has been rising steadily during the past several decades in the United States. Today, it is estimated that there are over 11 million cancer survivors, which represent about 4% of the total population.1 The National Cancer Institute defines survivors as individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer from the time of diagnosis through the balance of their lives. Family members, friends, and caregivers are included in this definition because they are also affected by the cancer experience.
