Introduction of transthoracic ecocardiography in the cardiological clinic in Puerto Píritu, Municipio Pe?alver, Estado Anzoátegui, Venezuela

Introduction : Ecocardiography has become the technology of choice for the diagnosis and follow-up of the majority of cardiopathies. The principal advantages of this technology are: speed, wide availability, the excellent cost-benefit relationship and his not invasive character Objetive : To describe ecocardiographic findings in patients evaluated in the cardiology clinic of the Puerto Píritu clinical center. Methods: 100 patients attending the clinic were subjected to a transthoracic echocardiography. Results: the more frequent finding was left ventricular hypertrophy in 30 cases, followed by disorders of contractilidad in ischaemic cardiopathy (17 cases). Discussion: Every patient with diagnostic presuntivo of cardiopathy or with suggestive symptoms of cardiac origin, as well as those with a known cardiopathy must be studied by means of ecocardiography.
