Closure of a persistent esophagopleural fistula by use of an atrial?septal occluder device

A 55-year-old man with a radiation-induced esophagealstricture experienced an esophagopleural fistula (EPF)as an adverse event of endoscopic balloon dilationtherapy. Despite 9 months of covered esophageal stenttreatment, the fistula persisted (Figs. 1A and B). Owingto its recessed position and fibrotic nature, endoclipclosure was unlikely to be beneficial (Fig. 1C).
