Remanufacturing, rebuilding or retrofitting of machine tools have not yet been standardized because they have complex design constraints such as the absence of original design specifications, uncontrolled failure conditions and complex design of the worn parts. This paper proposes an integrated reverse engineering approach using non-destructive inspections, analytical calculations and finite element analysis for recovering a shaft of a rotary draw bending machine, as a case study. In conclusion, the 3D-CAD model, material type, manufacturing process, and surface characteristics were determined without the original manufacturer support, and required surface treatments are specified.
