摘要

Vision is organized along the visual pathways that our brain uses to form images. The Dowlings begin with a neat description of how we see: Vision occurs when rays of light are captured by the photoreceptor cells of the retina that line the back of the eye. This requires a transparent window into the eye and amechanism for bringing the rays of light to a focus on the photoreceptors. Two remarkable structures, the cornea and lens, serve to accomplish this.
