Visual and Acoustical Social Displays by the GrasshopperArphia Conspersa(Orthoptera: Acrididae)

摘要

Many species of the Oedipodinae (band-wing grasshoppers) exhibitstrikingly diverse social interactions invoking visual and acousticalcommunication between the sexes and between individuals of thesame sex (Otte, 1968, 1969).The present paper is an account of the communication system ofArphia conspersaand will serve as an introduction to quantitativeand experimental analyses of specific aspects of the behavior of thisand other species.
