The binary decision diagram and fault tree analysis method is integrated to solve the ‘combinational explosion’ problem caused by using fault tree analysis method only in fault diagnosis field. First, a fault tree model of the hot die forging press is established and transformed into a binary decision diagram by using component connection method. Then, quantitative analysis method of fault tree is given to obtain the occurrence probability of the top event and the importance of the minimum cut set. Moreover, the expert system is used to complement the intelligent diagnosis process based on the knowledge database and rule database. At last, the prototype system of fault diagnosis system for the hot forging press is developed and debugged. The results show that the system is reliable and feasible.
