Considérations, dans les politiques publiques, de l’équité et des inégalités sociales de santé en lien avec l’exposition à la pollution atmosphérique

The health impacts of atmospheric air pollution are not randomly distributed across different population subgroups. In addition, some disparities may exist in relation to the levels of exposure to different air pollutants. First, this article aims at introducing the notion of environmental inequality in the context of air pollution exposure. In addition, many public policies have been implemented to reduce the ambient levels of air pollution. Second, this article aims at introducing the notion of equity in relation to the distribution of public policy benefits. Finally, we provide an example that illustrates the mechanisms through which a policy that targets road traffic emissions can increase or not health inequalities.
