style="text-align: left;">This article is presented as an initial investigation into the feasibility of using recessed ends in hollow-core slab construction. It is found that in many practical situations, hollow-core slabs with recessed ends are needed on the job site. Experimental and finite element studies are conducted to determine the stress distribution in grouted and ungrouted recessed ends of hollow-core slabs. The current design procedure followed is also outlined. General observations and recommendations for design are provided.
