Wide-Field Video Observation and Statistical Analysis of the Leonid Meteor Storm in 2001

Weshowadetailedanalysisofawide-fieldvideoobservationoftheLeonidMeteorStormfrom$${14{}^{mathrm{h}}41{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$through$${20{}^{mathrm{h}}03{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$(UT)on2001November18.Wedetected1573meteorsofLeonidsand64meteorsofothers.Thepeakofthestormappearedat$${18{}^{mathrm{h}}20{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$anditsdurationwas1.9a€‰hr(FWHM).Bright($$mleq2.5$$)andfaint($$mgeq2.5$$)meteorsshowedsignificantlydifferentbehaviorintheiractivity.Especially,after$${19{}^{mathrm{h}}15{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$,brightobjectsdominatedthemeteorevents.Wefoundmanylocalpeaksinthecountrecord,andmostoflocalpeaksconsistedoffaintmeteors.Theautocorrelationfunctionandtheintervaldistributionbetweenthemeteorarrivalssuggestthatthedistributionofdustinthecometarytrailshasnosignificantspatialstructuresthatgiverisetoatemporallycoherentbehaviorwithatime-scaleofsecondstominutes.
