A Precast Prestressed Concrete Moment-Resisting Frame Building for Seismic Zone 3

align="left">The new Paper Pulp Dryer Building belonging to the Pope & Talbot company near Eugene, Oregon, was built using an innovative moment-resisting precast, prestressed concrete portal frame. The? structure was designed to meet the Seismic Zone 3 requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1991). The complete frame above the foundation consists of unusually large precast concrete single-tee? wall and roof panels. The connections between the precast elements in the direction of frame action provided monolithic emulation. All column (tee stem) vertical reinforcement was extended into the? roof tee stems through metallic tubes and grouted. In addition to the grouting, the threaded ends of the reinforcing bars received an anchor plate bolted down to increase development capacity. In the long direction of the? building, the wall tee flanges acted as a non-loadbearing shear wall connected together by welded flange connectors.
