align="left">The probable cause of vertical cracks near the ends of pretensioned members during detensioning is investigated. Experimental results and mathematical modeling indicate the cause to be short length of? tendon between casting and abutment. Increasing the free tendon length or debonding some strands at the ends should alleviate the cracking problem.
