Langanitenanopowdersdopedwitherbiumandytterbiumwerepreparedbyacitratesol-gelmethodandannealedinairatvarioustemperaturesbetween700ordm;Cand1000ordm;C.Forannealingtemperatures900ordm;Cand1000ordm;C,partofthelanganitetransformsinperovskite(LaGaO3),asevidencedinXRDspectra.Thereddishcolorofthepowdersduetocolorcentersassociatedtooxygendefectsintensifieswithincreasingannealingtemperature.GreenandredluminescencewasobtainedforIR(933nm)pumpingandonlygreenforUVpump.Themechanismsinvolvedinluminescenceandenergytransferprocessesarepresentedanddiscussed.
