This process defines a useful measurement as being reliable, valid and responsive to intervention. Furthermore, the implications of changes in the measurement should be fully understood. In other words how many units of change are necessary for the change in the measurement to be regarded as clinically relevant or meaningful? Data are available, for example, showing that a 21% gain in the one-repetition-maximum squat exercise is associated with a 2.3% improvement in sprint performance.
