HuMOS: Human Meridianology Open-access knowledgebase System

摘要

Multidirectional exchange of information and visualization are two major themes of today’s scholarship field, because of the ease and accessibility of information handling made possible by this practice. The field of Oriental Medicine is no exception. Multidirectional exchanges of information using the Internet and visualization techniques are the most significant tasks of Oriental Medicine, both at present and in the foreseeable future. However, despite its possible importance, no well-organized knowledgebase system for details about Oriental Medicine, especially with regard to meridianologic information, has been reported to date. To address this issue, we have constructed a web-based program called HuMOS. The HuMOS manipulates a rotatable human body model with fourteen meridians and 361 acupuncture points, in accordance with the WHO Standard Acupuncture Nomenclature 2nd Edition. The main advantage of the HuMOS is that it allows for an easy understanding of absolute and relative locations between acupuncture points for users. Furthermore, as an open access collaboratively-written system, HuMOS provides network contents for multidirectional exchanges of meridianologic information. Macromedia Flash 8 was used as a graphic tool, MySQL server was used as a database management system, and JAVAscript was used to construct the database-web interface.
