Definition and prioritization of electronic solutions affecting environment: A case study on air pollution of Tehran

Air pollution caused by highway traffic is one of the major problems of Iran’s capital, Tehran. Application of modern electronic systems and devices can reduce or even cut urban travels and the air pollution caused by vehicles. In this study, the main objective is to propose a pattern to prioritize electronic solutions (e-solutions) based on the respective air pollution reduction caused by each solution. After the definition of e-solutions, their effect on the travel motivation decline and the respective air pollution reduction has been evaluated using DEMATEL technique, which is a group decision making process. Results of the study show that the most influential e-solutions for reduction of Tehran’s air pollution are e-banking, e-government and e-commerce, respectively. The procedure of definition and prioritization of e-solutions can be adapted to other metropolises as well.
