摘要

Fractal image compression (FIC) is a well-known technique for image compression, but itsuffers from slow encoding process. To improve the efficiency of FIC, hybrid encoding methods thatcombine fractal coding with other coding methods are used. This paper presents proposed hybrid FICalgorithms, for both grayscale and RGB images, which combine the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT)with the Quadtree decomposition and Huffman coding techniques. The Quadtree decomposition methodis used for the reduction of the search space and Huffman coding is used for improving the compressionquality. The DCT is combined with the Quadtree decomposition and Huffman coding to improve thecompression ratio. The paper also presents the results of the experiments that have been conducted toevaluate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid FIC algorithms for grayscale and RGB images.
