Funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Science in China (Scientia Sinica) was first published in 1950 andwill celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2010. During its earlier history the journal published numerous significant articleswhich reported the development of science and technology in China, making a significant contribution to academic exchangeand understanding between Chinese scientists and their international counterparts. In 2008, the Science inChina Series implemented a comprehensive reform, including founding a council of directors headed by the Presidentof the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. LU Yongxiang, for management of the journals and establishing new editorialboards for all Series of the Journal. In October, 2009 Science in China merged with the journal “Progress of NaturalSciences” to form a new journal renamed as “SCIENCE CHINA”, which will be jointly sponsored by the ChineseAcademy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. This new name highlights the internationalattributes of this journal. Therefore “SCIENCE CHINA” is facing a new period.
