PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN BIHOR COUNTY AND THEIR RESULTS BETWEEN THE TWO WORLD WARS

Between the World Wars, Oradea was a cosmopolitan city. As we haveseen, the Romanians were not the majority population. Those who dominatedthe city under demographic and economic aspect were the Hungarians andJews. In political terms, since the early 20’s, the most of the Romanians of BihorCounty were subordinated to the most important party in Transylvania, theRomanian National Party, while the Hungarians adopted immediately afterunification a political attitude circumscribed to passivity. After this period, thepolitical life will greatly diversify in Transylvania together with the offensive ofthe parties in the Old Kingdom while the Hungarians will gradually accept toengage themselves in the political affairs of the city and country.
