Factors Influencing the Altitudes of Hausa Male Parents Toward Girl-Child Education in Kano, Nigeria

This study examined the factors hindering girl-child education in northern Nigeria. The views of 1000 male respondents within the age group of 18 and 59years was selected randomly both in urban and rural areas. It was considered adequate due to the homogeneous nature of the population. Respondents were asked several questions on girl-child education Likert scale was used to measure attitudes of respondents to indicate their degree of approval or disapproval to five point scare consisting of various statements pertaining to girl-child education. The main instrument for the data collection was a questionnaire administered in a form of interview conducted in Hausa language with reliability coefficient of 0.75 and 0.82. Hypotheses generated for the study were tested at 0.05 alpha levels using the chi-square with SPSS statistical tool. Regression and path analysis was also used. It was discovered that there was a significant relationship between the variables tested and girl-child education.
