Meatqualityisinfluencedbyvariousfactorssuchasbreed,gender,age,bodyweight(BW)andfatness,amongothers.BothBWandfatnessarecommonlyusedfortheevaluationofcarcasses,thusinfluencingitsmarketvalue..Thisstudyaimedtodeterminetheslaughteringprobabilityforagroupofmalebuffaloesafterreachingeitherapre-determined(ideal)slaughteringweight(PBW)equivalentto420kg,orrumpfatthickness(RFT)of6mm.Bodyweightsandultrasoundfatmeasurementsof123castratedmalebuffaloeswereused.SurvivabilityvalueswereestimatedbythenonparametricKaplanMayertest.At24monthsofage,8%and7%oftheanimalshadreachedPBWandRTF,respectively.At27monthsofage,62%oftheanimalsreachedtheidealweightforslaughter.ThelastanimalreachedthePBWat34monthsofage.
